There are seasons in ministry that feel full, fast, and fruitful… and then there are seasons that bring everything to a stop.
This past year was one of those unexpected seasons for us.
Due to my husband’s illness, we had to step back our chalk art ministry schedule. Plans we had prayed over—church events, VBS programs, Christian school assemblies, and outreach services—had to be set aside.
It wasn’t easy—and if we’re honest, it wasn’t something we would have chosen.
But God…
Even in the stillness, He was working.
When God Slows You Down in Ministry
In ministry, it’s easy to measure impact by how busy you are—how many events you’ve booked, how many people you’ve reached, how full your calendar looks. When that suddenly changes, it can leave you wondering where you fit and what God is doing.
But this season reminded us of something powerful:
God is not just working through us—He is working in us.
In the quiet moments, away from the stage and the chalkboard, God began to deepen our faith in ways that only happen when everything else is stripped away. We were reminded that our identity is not in what we do, but in who we are in Christ.
Lessons We’ll Carry Forward
Though we wouldn’t have chosen this journey, we wouldn’t trade what God has taught us through it.
-
Trust over timeline – God’s plans are not rushed, and they are never late
-
Faith in the unseen – Even when ministry doors seemed paused, God was still moving
-
Strength in surrender – Letting go of our plans made room for His greater purpose
And maybe most importantly…
-
Ministry begins at home – Before the stage, before the audience, God calls us to care for what He’s placed right in front of us
